Before you can change the address on a vehicle registration, you must first change the address on either your license or ID. You can change the address on your license or ID by going into your local GA DDS office or doing it online. If you are going to change the address on your license or ID at your local GA DDS office, then you must bring 2 documents proving your residence. Acceptable forms of proof of residence are a utility bill issued within the last 2 years, a paycheck issued within the last 2 years, a W-2 form issued within the last 2 years, a voter registration card issued within the last 2 years, an unexpired firearms license, an unexpired merchant marine license, an auto insurance policy issued within the last 2 years, a Refugee Address Verification Affidavit, a federal income tax return issued within the last 2 years, a property tax bill issued within the last 2 years, a homeowners insurance policy issued within the last 2 years, Medicare statements, correspondence from the DDS or any other documents issued by the federal government. Once you have provided these documents, you can them change your address on your license or ID. If this is your first change of address, during the current term of your license, then the change is free. If this is not the first change of your address, then there is a $32 fee. There is also a $32 fee if the change doesn’t come within 150 days before the renewal date of your license or ID. In order to change your vehicle address online, you must be a U.S. citizen, be a Georgia resident and have created an online service account since June 1, 2013. If you meet these requirements, then you must go online and use the GA DDS Address Change System. Once you have completed the necessary steps, you will be sent a renewed GA license or ID card within 10 days.

Once you have changed the address on your license or ID, changing the address on your vehicle registration is very simple. All you have to do is fill out a MV-1 form, have a current GA vehicle title and have a valid license or ID. You then either mail these to your local GA County Tag Office or take them in yourself. There is no fee for changing your registration address and the change will take place within several weeks.
